bill,

like so many here have stated - your work is superb and let me add your as close to irreplaceable as any blogger/writer covering the flyers scene today.

all the signs seem to indicate that JVR will be moved and while I'd rather let him develop here, I'm on board if a bogosian is coming back the other way. I'd also be willing to swap him out for a guy like evander kane.

As always Bill, a fine summary of what news there is ...

JvR....since Holmgren isn't rearing up and defending the player the way he did Carter and Richards and their role/place in the teams future...I almost feel like he is staying. Call it reverse truth speak.

Jagr. I would like him back but not at $3.3 or higher. I get the feeling that is the price. If he moves on then Shenn, and JvR and Cooter will be able to compete for more top line time and more PP time which in the long run could be a very good thing.

On the Draft...I have no clue. Every year I think I know what the Flyers are thinking and the teams ahead of them...and almost 100% of the time everything goes in a different direction.

I think the Flyers may be in on J Bo who could be had a lot cheaper then Weber (with good reason)......I also think JVR is in serious play....The Flyers have a glutten at wing...they had others step up and play well when JVR was sidelined.
I have not been a big fan of Matt Carle, mostly for his lack of physicality and sometimes lacadasical play in his own end.....But the pickins are slim....I am becoming more receptive to his return.
As far as Jagr, if he signs fo 3.3.....he will probably make only the pro-rated amount when the salary cap drops....as well they may not even play until December....so I understand Jagr position.
I thinks the "smoking gun" with Holmgren is that both players are still in Limbo....No comments...like "we have a deal in Principle , but have to wait" comments ....That says the Flyers are gearing to TRY and add a high priced talent....debate whether his name is Nash, Weber or Parise!!!

If big names are no possible, which is most likely, Id like to see them:

Sign Wellwood

Trade for Douglas Murray

Trade Bob to move up in draft, no clue who to pick

Another winger if Jagr goes

Resign Carle

I like Doug Murray, but he provides what we already get from grossmann. we need more of a puck mover. I'm also hoping you don't mean Kyle when referring to the wellwood clan...he offers nothing we need here. doubt if bob has a lot of value right now...

Agreed on all counts. We need a defenseman who can handle the puck a little better. Especially if Timonen is going to miss time.

With four days to go until the NHL Draft and the start of free agency less than two weeks away, we have reached the point in the off-season when the usual denials, downplays and double-speak made by NHL teams about potential personnel moves go into hyperdrive.

Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful Source getting every trade rumor correct.

They should make a move for the 8th overall pick and select potential draft-day tumbler, F Mikhail Grigorenko (who suffered through a bout of mono), with the pick.

It worked in 2011.

Please explain the differences. They seem like utility guys to me. Not being a smart A, I just thought they added similar skills. A guy like Moore would be ideal to me.

on the surface...
vet versus rookie (younger player)
Moore has his game refined versus Wellwood still learning

that's what sticks out other then just stating two different players.

One big difference is that Moore is much more proven and a very capable faceoff guy. Right now, both are utility guys who would fit in on the 4th line, though.

Just an update on Pronger:

Chris Pronger is currently helping out the Flyers organization by watching videos of players and attending scouting meetings. Pronger is still battling headaches and is having "good days and bad days," according to Flyers GM Paul Holmgren. It's unclear if he will be able to play at all next season because of post-concussion syndrome.

It could. The other thing that's different is that Moore is definitely less of a question in terms of commitment and work ethic. Wellwood's bounceback in Winnipeg is great, but who knows if it will last or just be a summer fling?
